Here in the St. Francois Mountains we have a front-row seat as the trees in the Arcadia Valley begin to display their vibrant fall colors! First to change color are the sassafras, sumac and Virginia creeper, and then black gum, bittersweet and dogwood, and finally maples, ash, oaks and hickories. We have some of the most beautiful scenery in the region, and fall only amplifies its beauty.
Many trails and overlooks in the Valley have breathtaking views made only more stunning by the fall colors. Climb to the top of Taum Sauk Mountain State Park and be on the top of Missouri – literally! From there, the Mina Sauk trail is a rugged 3-mile loop taking you to the state’s tallest waterfall. Or try a relatively new hiking trail in the area – Ketcherside Mountain. This 2.3-mile loop trail is rated moderate. It’s a photographer’s paradise with its natural rock bluffs and amazing views.
